Shrek the Musical
In this staging of the Tony Award-winning Shrek the Musical, UMMTA leans into the scale, spectacle, and bombastic comedy of both the source material and musical theatre as a genre. The misanthropic ogre, Shrek, is thrown into a quest to rescue Princess Fiona. On his journey he discovers that friendship and love are far more likely, and more rewarding, than any fairytale suggests. Rejecting the familiar visual language of the film and its many stage adaptations, we hope audiences will enjoy this love letter to musical theatre in all its camp and off-the-wall comedy, to maybe see the story anew.
