Divorce Me, Darling!
By Sandy Wilson
Divorce Me, Darling! is the sequel to UMMTA's first show, The Boyfriend, and in early 2005 UMMTA workshopped it to great success!
It is a nostalgic and amusing take-off of the musical comedies of the 1930s. The charming young pupils of Mme Dubonnet's finishing school, who have married their respective "boyfriends", and reunite ten years later at the Hotel du Paradis in Nice. However, all does not go as planned as mistaken identities and comprising situations lead to everyone wanting a divorce. New characters join the old in creating comical situations that are invariably played out and resolved in song. As all this is going on Madame Dubonnet, has become a cabaret singer, Percy is on the run from a devastating past and the President of Monomania is a constant mysterious presence. In addition, the Brockhursts have formed a nature appreciation troop, Bobby's sister is looking for love and Hortense had a career change, with some unexpected benefits.Divorce Me, Darling! showed at Union Theatre Thursday 17th and Friday 18th March, 2005.
